Meet the Clerk: Tom Bexley

Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller Tom Bexley was elected as Flagler County’s Clerk in November, 2016. Prior to taking office, he was the Flagler County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller’s Chief Operations Officer for seven years. Prior to his employment with the Office of the Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller, Tom spent the majority of his professional career in the personal lines insurance industry.

Tom is a fourth generation Floridian and was raised locally in Northern Volusia County.  He earned his undergraduate degree at Flagler College where he received his bachelor’s degree in Public Administration.

Under Tom’s leadership as Clerk of Court & Comptroller, records maintained by the office are safer and more accessible online than ever. Understanding the importance of these records, Tom implemented disaster recovery plans for all Clerk software and the County’s financial system which were executed during Hurricanes Matthew and Irma.

Workflows between the Clerk’s Office and the Judiciary have been enhanced through cross departmental training. Improvements were also made in the jury process through the implementation of a new Jury Management System that allows text message and email communication with potential jurors.

Throughout his tenure, Tom has continued to expand access to services provided by the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office through online applications such as eFiling in courts, eRecording of land records and online payments.

Tom strives to continually improve the operations and functionality of the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office. Currently a new financial software package is being developed and tested, once implemented this software will modernize workflows between the County and the Clerk & Comptroller’s Office. Which will significantly improve data transfer, tracking, reporting and comptroller capabilities.
