October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month, and the Florida Court Clerks and Comptrollers remain committed to protecting Floridians who may be suffering from domestic violence. We actively work with the local sheriff’s office to assist victims and ensure justice and safety for victims and their families.

Did you know that according to the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men have experienced some form of physical violence by an intimate partner?  Domestic violence affects all Floridians, and the Florida Court Clerks and Comptrollers want to remind everyone that the Clerks of the Court offices serve as local resources to community members who are both directly and indirectly affected by domestic violence year-round.

There were more than 120,000 cases of domestic violence reported in Florida last year, according to NCADV. Sadly, as a result of the countless incidents that go unreported by victims, the figure and severity surrounding the issue continues to increase.

The Flagler County Clerk of the Circuit Court & Comptroller is taking a stand against domestic violence to improve this statistic, by refusing to remain silent upon experiencing, witnessing or hearing about incidents of domestic violence. We pledge to hold ourselves accountable, refusing to stay with the “it’s none of my business” mindset.

While we continue to work to end domestic violence in Flagler, our office strives to be a reliable, responsive and sensitive resource to victims. It is our duty to serve as advocates and support systems, as we approach each situation with the seriousness and urgency these victims deserve. For their protection, we use complete confidentiality and discretion throughout the duration of the process; from filing reports to ensuring victims are connected to advocate programs.

Should you or someone you know be experiencing domestic violence, we urge you to reach out to our office at the Kim C. Hammond Justice Center at 1769 E Moody Blvd, Building 1, Bunnell, Florida 32110.

Help us spread the message on domestic violence throughout this October.  Visit FLClerks.com for more details on how your local Court Clerk and Comptroller’s Office can help!
